TORONTO, May 1 (UPI) -- Dave van den Bergh scored just before halftime Thursday, allowing New York to forge a 1-1 tie with Toronto.

Van den Bergh's goal came in the 38th minute and ended a scoreless streak of 259 minutes by Toronto goalkeeper Greg Sutton.

Sutton had last given up a goal to Landon Donovan of Los Angeles on April 13.

Toronto opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on a header by Marco Velez off a free kick from Laurent Robert. It was the first time this season Toronto scored in the first 30 minutes of a game.

The tie gives Toronto a 3-2-1 record. Toronto moved into a four-way tie for second place in the Eastern Conference of MLS. New York is 2-1-2.
