SEVILLE, Spain, May 1 (UPI) -- A 7-under-par 65 Thursday gave Martin Erlandsson a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Open de Espana golf tournament in Seville, Spain.

The native of Bunkeflostrand, Sweden, began his round on the back nine holes with four straight pars.

Birdies at the 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, and 16th holes vaulted him to the top of the leader-board and established a record single-round score on the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla course.

"It's a fantastic course," Erlandsson said. "I'm always working hard and just trying to develop my game, week by week and year by year. I've made a good start here, but I'm not going to get carried away. Tomorrow's a fresh day and I just have to keep playing the same way."

He is ahead of Spaniards Ignacio Garrido and Jordi Garcia, who share second place at 6-under 66.

England's Gary Clark is alone in fourth at 5-under 67.
