Henrik Zetterberg also scored and had an assist for Detroit, which will try to sweep Colorado Thursday in Denver. Johan Franzen also scored and Mikael Samuelsson had two assists.

Chris Osgood stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced for the Red Wings, who are one win away from reaching the conference finals for a second straight year.

Andrew Brunette netted two goals, Cody McLeod once and Joe Sakic had two assists for the Avalanche. Colorado goalie Jose Theodore surrendered four goals on 35 shots.

Colorado had forward Peter Forsberg and defenseman Scott Hannan back in the lineup, but forward Ryan Smyth missed the game with a foot injury.
