Mathieu through to Munich quarterfinals

MUNICH, Germany, April 30 (UPI) -- No. 1-seeded Paul-Henri Mathieu and eighth-seeded Marin Cilic set up a quarterfinal match with victories Wednesday in the clay court BMW Open in Germany.

Mathieu easily handled Gianluca Naso 6-3, 6-4 while Cilic eliminated Philipp Petzschner 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) and are set to meet in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Simone Belli upset sixth-seeded Andreas Seppi 6-4, 7-5 and earned a Thursday match against Lee Hyung-taik, who was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Julio Silva in a battle of unseeded players.

In first-round matches delayed by Tuesday's rain storm, seventh-seeded Steve Darcis swept Benjamin Becker 6-3, 6-4; Marat Safin defeated Carlos Berlocq 6-3, 3-6, 6-4; Younes El Aynaoui beat Alexandre Sidorenko 6-4, 7-6 (8-6); and Michael Berrer won 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) over Ivo Klec.
