ARLINGTON, Texas, April 30 (UPI) -- A grand slam from Josh Hamilton highlighted an early Texas home run outburst Wednesday and the Rangers held on to down Kansas City 11-9.
The teams combined for seven home runs -- five of them by Texas.
The Rangers took a 9-1 lead through six innings before starter Kevin Millwood tired and the struggling Texas bullpen came under attack.
Millwood (2-2) lasted long enough to get the win, giving up five runs over 6 1/3 innings.
Kansas City's Brian Bannister (3-3), who had allowed two runs or less in four of his five starts, was touched for seven runs in three innings.
Milton Bradley hit a two-run homer in the first and Texas added five in the second on a solo home run by Brandon Boggs and Hamilton's grand slam.
David Murphy added a two-run shot in the fifth to make it 9-1.
Kansas City unloaded for five runs in the seventh, two of them coming on a home run by David DeJesus, and Texas then got a two-run blast by Gerald Laird in the bottom half of the inning.
The Royals climbed within two in the ninth on a two-run homer from John Buck.
