Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24


ST. LOUIS, April 30 (UPI) -- Joel Pineiro gave up one hit in seven scoreless innings Tuesday, helping the St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Cincinnati Reds 7-2.
Pineiro (2-2) issued four walks but the only hit he allowed was Corey Patterson's single to shallow center to start the game.
Troy Glaus drove in three runs and scored once for St. Louis. Rick Ankiel went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored, and Skip Schumaker was 4-for-5.
Rookie Johnny Cueto (1-3) lost for the third time in three straight decisions. He gave up seven runs on eight hits and one walk while lasting just 1 2/3 innings. Relievers Bill Bray and Josh Fogg combined to allow seven hits over 6 1/3 scoreless innings.
