MLB: Detroit 6, N.Y. Yankees 2

NEW YORK, April 30 (UPI) -- Two solo homers by Placido Polanco Wednesday helped carry Detroit past the New York Yankees 6-2.

Marcus Thames added a two-run home run for the Tigers, winners of seven out of nine.

Jeremy Bonderman (2-2) gave up two runs on five hits in 7 2/3 to get the win. Clay Rapada retired the only four men he faced in a non-save situation.

The loss went to Andy Pettitte (3-3), who surrendered five runs on seven hits in six innings.

Detroit overcame an early two-run deficit and Thames gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead in the fifth with his two-run blast.

Polanco's homers came in the sixth and eighth innings. They were his first two home runs of the season.
