SAVANNAH, Ga., April 27 (UPI) -- Tom Watson teamed with Andy North on an 8-under-par 64 Sunday to capture a one-stroke victory at the Legends of Golf tournament in Savannah, Ga.
Watson and North's 54-hole score was 31-under 185, which topped the 187 shot by Tommy Bolt and Art Wall in 1980.
"We started today's round four shots ahead," Watson said. "Last night, I quietly just said to myself, 'If we shoot 8-under par, we'll probably win the tournament.' I was just hoping we'd get the 8-under par a lot quicker than we did today."
Jeff Sluman and Craig Stadler (61) finished second with a combined total of 30-under 186.
Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam (60) ended third at 29-under 187.
The tournament returned to its original team format this year after being played as an individual stroke-play event the past six years.
