NEW YORK, April 26 (UPI) -- University of Virginia defensive end Chris Long Saturday became the second overall pick in the NFL draft at New York's Radio City Music Hall.
Long followed the draft's top pick, Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long, who was signed by the Miami Dolphins Tuesday.
The 6-foot-4, 284-pound senior, the son of hall of fame defensive end Howie Long, was the ACC's player of the year in 2007.
He was the 11th Cavalier player to be named a consensus All-American and the first since guard Elton Brown and tight end Heath Miller were named in 2004.
Chris Long's 14 sacks led the nation and the ACC.
The native of Crozet, Va., was rated higher than fellow All-Americans defensive tackles Glen Dorsey of LSU and Vernon Gholston of Ohio State.
The third and fourth picks were Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan (Atlanta) and Arkansas running back Darren McFadden (Oakland).
