SANTA ANA, Calif., April 24 (UPI) -- Investigators in Southern California have described a man who was with Olympic champion ice dancer Pasha Grishuk as a "person of interest" in her drugging.
The investigation is on hold until the results of toxicology tests are available to determine how much of a date rape drug Grishuk consumed, Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department, said.
Grishuk was having a dinner meeting at the St. Regis Monarch Beach resort on April 12, when she complained of feeling ill. She noticed a partly dissolved pill in her drink, and police, summoned to the hotel, found signs that another drink had also been spiked.
With her then-partner, Evgeny Platov, Grishuk won gold medals at the 1994 and 1998 Winter Olympics and four World Championships during the 1990s.
Police have not released the name of her dinner partner. She said that they were meeting to discuss starting a business to market clothing and vitamins.
