MLB: Detroit 8, Texas 2

DETROIT, April 24 (UPI) -- Magglio Ordonez hit two home runs Thursday to help the Detroit Tigers blast the Texas Rangers 8-2.

The first round-tripper, a solo blast in the bottom of the third inning, gave Detroit a 2-1 lead, and the second, a three-run shot, put Detroit ahead to stay at 5-2 in the fifth.

Ordonez had three hits in all.

Curtis Granderson, Brandon Inge and Ryan Raburn all hit solo homers and Edgar Renteria added an RBI for the Tigers, who outscored Texas 37-10 in the three-game series, including 19-6 on Wednesday.

The winner was reliever Zach Miner (1-1) in relief of starter Jeremy Bonderman.

Texas got one RBI apiece from David Murphy and Michael Young, who hit a solo homer in the top of the first.

Young had two of the four hits for the Rangers, who have dropped seven in a row.

The losing pitcher was starter Jason Jennings (0-4).
