PHILADELPHIA, April 24 (UPI) -- Philadelphia 76ers Executive Vice President Larry Brown announced his resignation on Thursday after just over one year on the job.

The coaching nomad was hired in January 2007 as an adviser but said numerous times that he wanted to return to the sidelines as a head coach.

"It's rare you'll find a separation between an organization and an executive as amicable as the one the 76ers had with Larry Brown today," team President and General Manager Ed Stefanski said in a statement. "This is something he and I talked about when I took the job, so it comes as no surprise to me. Working with Larry was always a pleasure."

Brown, 67, has a record of 1,010-800 in 23 seasons as a head coach for eight NBA clubs and is the league's fourth winningest coach ever.

He also coached Kansas University to the NCAA title in 1988.
