BC's Brady Smith arraigned, suspended

BOSTON, April 23 (UPI) -- Boston College says it has suspended football player Brady Smith from school following his arrest on sexual assault charges and also thrown him off the team.

Smith was arrested for allegedly breaking into the room of a female student who reportedly had spurned his advances at a club in Allston, Mass.

The school said in a written statement it had also kicked Smith off the football team permanently. Smith was a junior defensive end who started 12 games for the Eagles last season.

Smith was arraigned Tuesday and ordered held on $50,000 bail.

The Boston Globe said Smith's lawyer, Philip Tracy, indicated to the judge that he would be looking into the role alcohol may have played in the case.
