CHARLESTON, S.C., April 20 (UPI) -- Serena Williams claimed her third straight championship Sunday, outplaying Vera Zvonareva in the finals of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C.

The American star dropped the middle set but charged back for a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory.

It was the 31st career title for Williams, who recently won tour events in India and Miami.

Williams ran her winning streak to 15 straight matches and earned $196,900.
