McGrane wins Beijing Open

BEIJING, April 20 (UPI) -- Damien McGrane's 1-over-par 73 Sunday was good enough to secure a nine-stroke win at the Beijing Open golf tournament.

Wet, windy weather conditions also hindered everyone who had thoughts of mounting a challenge in the face of the Irishman's dominance.

His 73 was the day's second-best score and his 72-hole total was 10-under 274.

"I'm absolutely overjoyed," he said after winning a tournament on the European Tour for the first time in his eight-year career. "It is my first win and, to be honest, it is an amazing feeling to have won my first tournament. I had good fortune, loved the course and the bad weather didn't put me off my game today. My first win on this tour is big for me. It's like a dream come true."

Simon Griffiths (74) and Oliver Wilson (79), both from England, and 36-hole leader Michael Lorenzo-Vera (79) of France all shared second place at 1-under 287.
