Serena, Zvonareva are Charleston finalists

CHARLESTON, S.C., April 19 (UPI) -- Serena Williams" class="tpstyle">American Serena Williams and Russian Vera Zvonareva moved Saturday into the finals of the $1.34 million Family Circle Cup at Charleston, S.C.

Williams defeated unseeded Alize Cornet of France 7-5, 6-3 while Zvonareva posted a 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3 victory over fourth-seeded countrywoman Elena Dementieva.

Williams, the 2003 Charleston runner-up, reached the semifinals with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 win over Russian Maria Sharapova in Friday's quarterfinal. Williams won in Miami two weeks ago.

Zvonareva advanced Friday by beating top-seeded Jelena Jankovic, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
