
CHICAGO, April 19 (UPI) -- Jason Marquis gave up one earned run in six innings Saturday, setting the stage for the Chicago Cubs' 13-1 trouncing of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Chicago broke the game open by scoring four times in the bottom of the third inning, which gave them a 7-0 lead.
Chicago's Derrek Lee and Daryle Ward both hit two-run homers. Mark DeRosa and Ronny Cedeno also had two RBI. DeRosa, Ryan Theriot and Geovany Soto each had two hits.
Marquis (1-0) walked one batter and struck out seven for the Cubs, who have won five of their last six games.
Pittsburgh's lone run scored on Freddy Sanchez's double in the top of the fifth.
Losing pitcher Tom Gorzelanny (1-2) was torched for seven earned runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings.
The Pirates have lost four in a row but center-fielder Nate McLouth has hit safely in all 17 games this season.
