Federer advances to Estoril Open final

ESTORIL, Portugal, April 19 (UPI) -- Roger Federer bounced back after a slow start Saturday and won his semifinal match at the Estoril Open in Portugal against Denis Gremelmayr in three sets.

The scores were 2-6, 7-5 and 6-1.

The win put the tournament's top seed and the world's top-ranked men's player into a final for the first time this season.

Gremelmayr, from Germany, broke the Swiss great's serve in the first and seventh games of the match to take the opening set in just 31 minutes. But Federer responded by winning 21 of 27 points on serve in the second set and breezed through the third.

"I feel more comfortable, moving and sliding," Federer said. "This is my first final of the year and I'm very happy with the week so far."

In Sunday's final, he will face No. 2 seed Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, a 6-2, 6-2 winner against Frenchman Florent Serra.
