Bucknell men's hoops coach to retire

LEWISBURG, Pa., April 19 (UPI) -- Bucknell men's basketball Coach Pat Flannery says he will retire effective July 1 after 14 years at his alma mater.

His overall record was 234-178 and his 125 conference wins established a Patriot League record.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to have had the opportunity to coach outstanding young scholar-athletes here at my alma mater for 14 years," Flannery said at a news conference Friday. "I am grateful to my wife and children for the support they have given me throughout this time. With them in mind and after much reflection, I have decided it is time to move on to a new phase in my life."

Flannery missed two games this past season with an unspecified illness and also was sidelined five games during the 2004-05 season with what stress-related symptoms.

School officials said he will assume a new fundraising position within the university.
