WASHINGTON, April 18 (UPI) -- Gonzalo Peralta headed the ball into his own goal in the 43rd minute Thursday, giving Columbus a 2-1 victory over D.C. United.

With the game deadlocked at 1-1, Columbus tried to set up Alejandro Moreno in front of the United goal. Moreno was closely marked by Peralta, who leaped high in an attempt to head the ball out of trouble. Instead, the ball ricocheted into his own net, allowing Columbus to improve its record to 3-1.

United fell to 1-3.

Moreno scored in the 32nd minute and Bryan Namoff tied it for United with his first goal in three years.
