TORONTO, April 18 (UPI) -- Edgar Renteria hit a two-run homer Friday and the Detroit Tigers overcame an early deficit with seven unanswered runs in an 8-4 victory over Toronto.
Detroit fell into a 4-1 hole, but the Blue Jays could manage only three hits in the game and Kenny Rogers was able to pick up his first win of the season.
Rogers (1-3) gave up all four runs on three hits with four walks over 6 2/3 innings. Detroit's comeback was its fourth win in five games.
Jeremy Accardo (0-3) was charged with the loss after giving up three runs in two-thirds of an inning in relief. Starter David Purcey, in his big league debut, did not figure in the decision after allowing a run on two hits in 4 1/3.
With the Tigers trailing by three in the sixth, Ivan Rodriguez doubled home two runs. Detroit then took the lead with four runs in the seventh -- Magglio Ordonez recording the go-ahead score when Carlos Guillen hit a sharp grounder between the legs of shortstop John McDonald for an error.
Renteria finished off the seventh with his homer to make it 7-4.
