
ST. LOUIS, April 17 (UPI) -- Prince Fielder's two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning Thursday boosted the Milwaukee Brewers past St. Louis 5-3.
The homer was the slugger's first this season. He had two hits and three RBI overall.
Hernan Iribarren and Ryan Braun drove in one run apiece. Craig Counsell had a run and three hits and Braun had two hits for the Brewers, who avoided a three-game sweep.
The winner was Brian Shouse (1-0). Eric Gagne earned his fourth save.
Milwaukee starter Manny Parra surrendered three earned runs and five hits and walked five batters in three innings.
St. Louis' Ryan Ludwick had four hits, one RBI and scored twice. Starter Kyle Lohse smacked a two-run single in the fourth for the Cardinals, who had won four of their five previous contests.
The losing pitcher was Brad Thompson (1-1).
Lohse yielded two earned runs and five hits in seven innings.
