
ESTORIL, Portugal, April 16 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Flavia Pennetta lost her second-round match Wednesday at the $145,000 women's Estoril Open tennis tournament in Estoril, Portugal.
The Italian was trounced 6-2 6-2 by Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic.
Benesova has won only one tournament in 10 years on the Women's Tennis Association Tour (WTA).
Elsewhere, No. 3 Karin Knapp of Italy topped Colombia's Mariana Duque Marino 6-3, 6-4; Czech Klara Zakopalova, the sixth seed, easily beat Italian Corinna Dentoni 6-4, 6-1, and No. 8 Camille Pin of France topped Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova 6-3, 6-4.
In Thursday's quarterfinals, No. 2 Maria Kirilenko, who has won twice since turning pro in 2001, meets Petra Chetkovska; Knapp plays Zakopalova; and Benesova meets Pin.
The 2008 Estoril champion will claim a winner's check of $24,400.
