Reynolds suit against ESPN settled

BRISTOL, Conn., April 16 (UPI) -- ESPN has reached an out-of-court settlement with former analyst Harold Reynolds, now employed by Major League Baseball's Web site, MLB.com.

Reynolds filed a $5 million wrongful termination lawsuit against the cable sports network after he was fired in 2006 following accusations of sexual misconduct made by a female employee.

The New York Times reported Wednesday that the suit was settled last week.

"This was a matter of principle," the former MLB player told the newspaper. "I stood on principle and didn't waver. My goals were met. Now I can put this behind me and concentrate on the game I love."

In a statement, ESPN said the settlement was "economically compelling amounting to a 'fraction' of his demands and less than what it would have cost to litigate the case."

The Times also noted he had completed only four months of a six-year contract that was worth at least $4.9 million.
