Fish wins, Haas loses in Clay Court event

HOUSTON, April 15 (UPI) -- American Mardy Fish won his first-round match and Germany's Tommy Haas lost Tuesday at the $436,000 U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston.

Fish, the third-seeded 2006 champion, beat Germany's Rainer Schuettler 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Haas, the 2004 champ, lost to Russia's Igor Kunitsyn 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

In other action, fifth-seeded Argentine Agustin Calleri beat American Vincent Spadea 6-4, 6-3; seventh-seeded Spaniard Marcel Granollers-Pujol beat Latvian Ernests Gulbis 6-2, 6-0; and Argentine Sergio Roitman beat 6-foot-9 American John Isner 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.
