Roddick secures U.S. Davis Cup win

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., April 13 (UPI) -- Andy Roddick's win over Paul-Henri Mathieu Sunday gave the United States an insurmountable 3-1 lead over France in their Davis Cup quarterfinal.

Roddick's 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 victory in Winston-Salem, N.C., put the Americans in the semifinals against Spain in September. Spain eliminated Germany 4-1.

Roddick lost only 13 points on his rocket-like serve while hitting 17 aces of his own.

"We're going to have to get a little dirty over there," he said, anticipating the battle against Spain, which likely will be contested on clay, a slower surface.

Roddick's victory made the outcome of James Blake's match against Richard Gasquet irrelevant to the overall outcome.
