Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
PITTSBURGH, April 13 (UPI) -- Tom Gorzelanny gave up a run and four hits Sunday in Pittsburgh's 9-1 romp past Cincinnati, completing a three-game sweep.
The winners led 2-0 lead through five innings before scoring three times in the sixth and four in the seventh.
Their biggest hit of the day was Jason Bay's three-run homer in the seventh. Ryan Duomit hit a solo homer in the second and Xavier Nady hit a two-run shot in the fourth. Bay and Nady both had two hits, Luis Rivas had one hit and two RBI.
Gorzelanny (1-1) walked four batters and struck one in 6 1/3 innings. Franquelis Osoria and Phil Dumatrait mopped up for the Pirates, who got swept by the Chicago Cubs in their previous series.
Cincinnati's lone run scored on Ryan Freel's seventh-inning single.
Freel and Paul Bako had two hits apiece for the Reds, who had won two in a row before the sweep.
The losing pitcher was Johnny Cueto (1-1).
