DENVER, April 12 (UPI) -- Nathan Gerbe had two goals and two assists Saturday, giving Boston College a 4-1 win over Notre Dame in the championship game of college hockey.

It was the third NCAA hockey title for the Eagles and their first in seven years.

Boston College was making its third straight appearance in the championship game, having lost to Michigan State in 2007 and to Wisconsin in 2006.

John Muse made 20 saves to get the win.

It was the first time in school history the Fighting Irish had played for the championship.

Gerbe scored the game's first goal at 2:23 of the second on a slapshot from the left circle. The game-winner came from Ben Smith on the power play three minutes later.
