
BOSTON, April 10 (UPI) -- Sean Casey drove in three runs Thursday and the Boston Red Sox pounded out 13 hits in running over Detroit 12-6.
The Red Sox got two RBI each from Manny Ramirez, Kevin Youkilis, J.D. Drew and Coco Crisp, and also benefited from nine walks.
Tim Wakefield (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five over five innings to get the win.
Detroit has lost eight of its opening nine games, having finally picked up its first victory of the season Wednesday.
The setback Thursday went to Nate Robertson (0-1), who gave up four runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Boston took the lead with a four-run fourth inning that was fueled by back-to-back walks to Ramirez and Youkilis. Drew singled in a run and Crisp delivered another with a ground-rule double. Drew then scored on a groundout by Casey and Kevin Cash singled home Crisp.
Ramirez contributed a two-run double in a four-run seventh.
