Pierzynski named AL Player of the Week

NEW YORK, April 7 (UPI) -- Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski has been chosen the American League's top player for the first week of the new season.

Pierzynski hit two home runs, batted .500 with 10 hits in 20 at-bats, drove in seven runs and scored seven times.

He also registered a 1.000 slugging percentage, and was 6-for-12 against Cleveland to start the season, then went 4-for-8 with five RBI in two games against Detroit.

The White Sox went 4-2 last week.
