Former World No. 1 Mauresmo wins at Amelia

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla., April 7 (UPI) -- France's Amelie Mauresmo was a first-round winner Monday at the $600,000 Bausch & Lomb Championships in Florida.

Mauresmo, who won this tennis tournament 2001, defeated Ukrainian Olga Savchuk 6-0, 7-5. Mauresmo, 28, beat Savchuk for the second time this year,

Ninth-seeded Sybille Bammer" class="tpstyle">Austrian Sybille Bammer was also among the opening-round winners Monday. Bammer, a left-hander, beat Belarusian Anna Orlik 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). Her next opponent is Alize Cornet of France, who was a 6-2, 6-1 winner Monday against Dutchwoman Michaella Krajicek.

Thirteenth-seeded Virginie Razzano" class="tpstyle">Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano defeated Ukrainian qualifier Yuliana Fedak 6-2, 6-1; 15th-seeded Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues won 6-4, 6-3 against Argentine Maria Emilia Salerni; and American Jill Craybas beat Uzbekistanian Akgul Amanmuradova 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-4).

American Meghann Shaughnessy lost 6-2, 6-2 to Poland's Marta Domachowska.

This week's top seed is Australian Open champion Maria Sharapova, who had a first-round bye and will open against Zahlavova Strycova.
