NHL: New Jersey 3, N.Y. Rangers 2 (S0)

NEWARK, N.J., April 6 (UPI) -- A shootout goal by Patrik Elias gave the New Jersey Devils a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers Sunday in the last game of the regular season.

The two teams will battle in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Devils finished with 99 points and the Rangers with 97.

After the teams traded goals in the shootout, Devils goalie Martin Brodeur stopped a shot by Fredrik Sjostrom and Elias put his game-winner past Henrik Lundqvist.

John Madden and Mike Rupp scored New Jersey's goals in regulation.

Chris Drury and Jaromir Jagr got the New York goals.

Brodeur finished with 17 saves, Lundqvist with 25.
