EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., April 5 (UPI) -- The New York Red Bulls, the last Major League Soccer team to start the 2008 season, posted a 2-0 win Saturday over the Columbus Crew.

The Red Bulls got the fastest goal in franchise history when Van den Bergh scored with a shot from just inside the penalty area that went off the hands of Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer with just 46 seconds gone.

Van den Bergh's quick goal broke Jozy Altidore's record of 55 seconds, set last May.

Van den Bergh was involved in the game's second goal as well, when eight minutes later he curved a low, hard corner kick from the right side into the penalty area. Kevin Goldthwaite, who was crashing the box from his left back position, scored his second career MLS goal, and first as a member of the Red Bulls.
