LSU System President John V. Lombardi said Alleva's hiring is expected to be approved when the Board of Supervisors meet April 24-25 in Baton Rouge.

"Joe Alleva brings a wealth of experience and accomplishment to LSU," Lombardi said. "I'm confident we've found a new leader for LSU athletics who exemplifies the vision and integrity needed to lead our sports programs to new heights, a champion of student athletes who believes in the highest standards of competition both on the field and in the classroom."

Alleva, a Lehigh University graduate, had worked at Duke since 1976 and was the ACC school's athletic director since 1998.

"It's very exciting to be joining one of the premier athletic departments in the country," he said Friday after he was hired.
