DETROIT, April 4 (UPI) -- A.J. Pierzynski's three-run eighth inning home run Friday gave the Chicago White Sox an 8-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

With the contest tied 5-5, two on and no outs, the veteran catcher planted an offering from Detroit reliever and losing pitcher Jason Grilli (0-1) deep into the right-field bleachers.

Pierzynski hit a two-run double in the top of the third and finished with three hits and five RBI.

Carlos Quentin had two hits, one a two-run homer in the second, and Jermaine Dye had three hits and one RBI for the White Sox, who have won two in a row while keeping the Tigers winless in their first four games.

The winner was Boone Logan (1-0) while closer Bob Jenks earned his second save.

Detroit played without injured players Miguel Cabrera, Gary Sheffield and Curtis Granderson.

Pudge Rodriguez had three hits and two RBI and Clete Thomas had three hits and one RBI.
