ESTORIL, Portugal, April 4 (UPI) -- Gregory Bourdy Friday forged a two-stroke lead through 36 holes of the European Tour's Open de Portugal in Estoril.
The overnight co-leader followed an 8-under-par 63 on Thursday with a 6-under 65 and his overall total of 14-under 128 leads Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano.
Bourdy surged on the back nine by making birdies from holes 13-16.
He has not made a bogey in either round and his total matches tournament's 36-hole record.
"Yesterday's round was the first time I have shot 8-under on the European Tour and it was a little difficult to get going this morning," he told reporters.
Fernandez-Castano (66) made two costly bogeys after his eagle at the seventh.
Thomas Levet (64) of France is third at 11-under 131, England's Simon Khan (67) jumped from a share of sixth place on Thursday to fourth at 10-under 132 and four players share fifth at 9-under 133.
