
DETROIT, April 3 (UPI) -- Zack Greinke scattered an earned run and six hits over seven innings Thursday when Kansas City beat Detroit 4-1.
The Royals have begun a season by winning their first three games since 2003 when the opened the seaosn 9-0.
They completed their season-opening sweep Thursday after Alex Gordon's two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning and Mark Teahen's solo blast in the sixth staked them to a 3-0 lead.
It was 4-0 after Jose Guillen's RBI single in the seventh.
Greinke (1-0), who improved his career record against the Tigers to 7-3, walked two batters and struck out three. Joakim Soria earned his second save of the series.
Detroit's Brandon Inge had two hits, one a solo homer in the seventh. Carlos Guillen also had two hits for the Tigers, who stranded 16 base runners.
Lsing pitcher Jeremy Bonderman (0-1) yielded four earned runs and eight hits.
