MLB: Kansas City 4, Detroit 0

DETROIT, April 2 (UPI) -- Kansas City right-hander Brian Bannister gave up just two singles in seven innings Wednesday and the Royals blanked the Detroit Tigers 4-0.

Billy Butler drove in two runs and Mark Grudzielanek scored twice in the Royals' second straight win in Detroit.

Bannister (1-0) struck out four and retired the last 12 batters he faced.

Jose Guillen and Mark Teahen each drove in a run for Kansas City.

The Tigers finished with three singles, all by Edgar Renteria.

Kenny Rogers (0-1) took the loss, allowing five hits and two runs in six innings.
