NHL: San Jose 3, Phoenix 1

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 30 (UPI) -- Joe Thornton scored twice Sunday for San Jose, powering the Sharks past the Phoenix Coyotes 3-1 for their 17th win in 19 games.

Curtis Brown also scored and Milan Michalek registered two assists for the Sharks, who have won the Pacific Division title and will have home-ice advantage at least through the first round of the playoffs.

San Jose goalie Evgeni Nabokov blocked 19 shots.

Shane Doan scored for Phoenix, which has lost seven of its last eight games and is out of the playoff picture. Coyotes goalie Ilja Bryzgalov made 29 saves.
