GREENSBORO, N.C., March 30 (UPI) -- Essence Carson's 25 points Sunday carried Rutgers to a 53-42 win over George Washington in an NCAA Tournament contest in Greensboro, N.C.

In a game filled with turnovers and poor shooting by GW, Rutgers built a 28-16 halftime lead and stymied a strong second-half challenge when the Lady Colonials used an 8-0 run to close to 33-30 with 14:20 left.

Epiphany Prince scored 12 points with seven rebounds.

Matee Ajavon had six points and six rebounds, while Kia Vaughn scored only three points but added a game-high 11 rebounds for the second-seeded Scarlet Knight (27-6), who will face top-seeded and fellow Big East member Connecticut Tuesday in the regional final.

They overcame 14 turnovers.

George Washington got 16 points and five rebounds from Jazmine Adair.

Sarah-Jo Lawrence, the only other player in double figures, added 10 points, three rebounds and three assists for the Lady Colonials, who finished with a 27-7 record.

They shot just 32.1 percent.
