Teen claims first-round win in Miami

MIAMI, March 27 (UPI) -- Tamira Paszek, who at 17 is one of the emerging prospects on the WTA circuit, won her opening round match Thursday at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

Paszek ousted Alize Cornet 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, to set up a second-round meeting with fifth-seeded Anna Chakvetadze.

Veteran Ai Sugiyama, who was not among the 32 players seeded for this tournament, defeated Anastasia Pivovarova 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), and Sofia Arvidsson moved on with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tatiana Poutchek.

Arvidsson will play fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic in the second round. All the seeds in this event had byes past the opening round.

Other first-round winners included Camille Pin, Emilie Loit, Sabine Lisicki, Jie Zheng, Eleni Daniilidou and Aleksandra Wozniak.

Ana Ivanovic, seeded second in this tournament and the winner last week in Indian Wells, will play Loit in the second round. Lindsay Davenport, who received the last of the 32 seeds, will meet Pin.
