Federer named top 2007 men's tennis player

MIAMI, March 26 (UPI) -- Top-ranked men's tennis player Roger Federer has earned his fourth straight player of the year award.

The Basel, Switzerland native also was voted the fans' favorite player for a fifth year in a row and captured the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award when the Association of Tennis Professionals named the annual honorees on Tuesday at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

"I am very happy to receive three more ATP awards for 2007," he said. "It is a great recognition for me (and) equally important to be voted by the fans as their favorite player and continuing to receive the support of the players and fans worldwide."

Mike and Bob Bryan, the doubles specialists from Camarillo, California, captured the Doubles Team of the Year Award for the third consecutive year, Serbia's Novak Djokovic won the Most Improved Player of the Year honor, Russia's Igor Andreyev was named winner of the comeback award and France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was named the top newcomer.
