MIAMI, March 26 (UPI) -- Banjamin Becker earned a meeting with second-seeded Raphael Nadal Wednesday by winning his opening-round match at the Sony Ericsson Open.
Becker was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Sergio Roitman.
The 32 seeded players in this event have a bye past the first round. Roger Federer, who was ousted from last week's Masters Series tournament in Indian Wells by Mardy Fish, is seeded No. 1 and will face the winner of the match between Gael Monfils and John Isner.
Kevin Anderson moved into the second round Wednesday by outlasting Agustin Calleri 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 7-6 (7-4). Anderson will take on third-seeded Novak Djokovic, who won in Indian Wells with a three-set victory over Fish.
Other first-round winners included Nicolas Mahut, Marin Cilic, Xavier Malisse, Andreas Seppi, Dmitry Tursunov, Juan del Potro, Sebastien Grosjean and Sam Querrey.
