MLB: Boston 6, Oakland 5 (10 inn.)

TOKYO, March 25 (UPI) -- Manny Ramirez doubled in two runs in the 10th inning Tuesday, giving the Boston Red Sox a 6-5 win over the Oakland Athletics in the season opener in Tokyo.

Rookie Brandon Moss forced extra innings with his first major league home run off Huston Street (0-1) in the ninth inning. Hideko Okajima (1-0) picked up the victory in his return to Japan.

Ramirez lined a shot off the right-center field wall to drive in Julio Lugo and David Ortiz and put the Red Sox up 6-4 in the 10th.

The Athletics' Emil Brown doubled in a run in the bottom of the inning but was caught in a rundown. Oakland got consecutive singles but, without Brown in scoring position, no runs before Jonathan Papelbon finished off the game for a save.

Oakland went up 2-0 in the first on a home run by Mark Ellis and a run-scoring ground out. With Ramirez getting his first two-run double and scoring on a Moss single, the Red Sox took a 3-2 lead in the sixth. But the Athletics answered with a two-run Jack Hannahan home run in the bottom of the inning for a 4-3 lead.
