LITTLE ROCK, Ark., March 22 (UPI) -- Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 23 points Friday and Memphis pulled away to defeat Texas-Arlington in the NCAA Tournament 87-63.
The tournament's No. 1 seeds improved to 96-0 with Memphis joining fellow top seeds UCLA, North Carolina and Kansas in the second round. The Tigers (34-1) will meet Mississippi State Sunday, with a spot in the Sweet 16 on the line.
Antonio Anderson and Derrick Rose both scored 17 points for Memphis and Robert Dozier had 12. The Tigers have won eight in a row since their only loss of the season, a 66-62 setback to Tennessee Feb. 23.
The Mavericks (21-12), making their first NCAA Tournament appearance, were led by Anthony Vereen with 20 points.
Memphis owned a 14-point halftime lead and saw it trimmed to nine early in the second half. The Tigers then went on a 10-2 run to end any thoughts of a massive upset.
