MIAMI, March 22 (UPI) -- Ankle surgery has ended the NBA season of Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem.

The 90-minute procedure, performed Friday by Dr. Harlan Selesnick, the team's physician, was for the removal of a painful a bone spur in Haslem's left ankle.

The 6-foot-8, five-year veteran is the fourth Heat player to undergo season-ending surgery.

The others were guard Dwayne Wade (knee), fellow forward Dorell Wright (knee) and center Alonzo Mourning (knee).

"I never envisioned it, but me and Dwyane will probably be back in the gym at the same time working out," Haslem told The Miami Herald this week. "It's going to be a lot of hard work. I never really had to go through a process of having surgery and rehabbing, so I don't really know what to expect."

Team officials think Haslem will be able to resume basketball activity in about two months.

He will be in a walking boot and then on crutches before the rehabilitation period.
