COL BKB: Syracuse 88, Maryland 72

SYRACUSE, N.Y., March 20 (UPI) -- Jonny Flynn scored 23 points Thursday and Syracuse used a second-half run to earn a quarterfinal berth in the NIT with an 88-72 win over Maryland.

Syracuse opened the tournament's second round by putting four players in double figures and boosting its record to 21-13.

Maryland took a one-point lead 7:30 into the second half before Syracuse went on its key 15-5 surge. Paul Harris added 19 points for Syracuse and Donte Greene had 16.

Maryland (19-15) was led by James Gist with 23 points and Bambale Osby with 21.

Syracuse's quarterfinal opponent will be either Akron or Massachusetts. Those teams meet in a second-round game Saturday.
