
ANAHEIM, Calif., March 20 (UPI) -- Kenny Brown's 18 points and four rebounds Thursday led Stanford's 77-53 rout of Cornell in an NCAA tournament first-round contest in Anaheim.
The contest was part of the South Region at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
The winners scored the game's first six points and never trailed. Cornell came within 15-12 on Adam Gore's three-pointer with 9:53 left in the first half but faced a 38-17 halftime deficit and did not threaten again.
Stanford's Robin Lopez had 14 points and four rebounds. Taj Finger had 10 points and eight rebounds, and nine players scored for the third-seeded Cardinal (27-7), who have won three of their last four contests.
Cornell was led by Louis Dale's 12 points and six rebounds. Gore had11 points and three rebounds and Alex Tyler added 10 points for the 14th-seeded and Ivy League champion Big Red (22-6), whose school-record 16-game winning streak ended.
Stanford will play sixth-seeded Marquette in the second round.
