RENO, Nev., March 19 (UPI) -- Marcus Cousins sank a free throw with 26 seconds to play Tuesday, lifting Houston past Nevada 80-79 in the College Basketball Invitational.

The Cougars were able to hang on to their precarious lead despite two potential game-winning shots by Nevada's Armon Johnson in the closing seconds.

Robert McKiver led Houston with 22 points and Dion Dowell added 19. Dowell went 4-for-12 from three-point territory as the Cougars suffered a scoring deep freeze in the second half. A surge in second-half rebounding, however, kept Nevada from exploiting the situation.

The Wolfpack had five players in double figures, including Marcelus Kemp with 24 points.
