
INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 18 (UPI) -- Top seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia easily dispatched No. 31 Tathiana Garbin of Italy Monday in third-round action of the $2.1 million Pacific Life Open.
Ivanovic won the match 6-3, 6-0.
Third-seeded Serbian Jelena Jankovic also had an easy time of it, defeating No. 27 Ai Sugiyama of Japan 6-1, 6-1.
American Lindsay Davenport took three sets to eliminate Yung-Jan Chan 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Davenport's next opponent will be Marion Bartoli of France, who downed Angelique Kerber 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
In other action Monday, Australia's Casey Dellacqua advanced after Austrian Tamira Paszek retired with an illness while trailing 6-1, 4-0. Francesca Schiavone of Italy downed fellow Italian Flavia Pennetta, 6-3, 6-4, and Russian Vera Zvonareva defeated countrywoman Galina Voskoboeva 6-0, 6-3. Anabel Medina Garrigues defeated Evgeniya Rodina 6-3, 7-5.
The winner of this event will be paid $332,000.
